FAQ

  • What immunizations do I need ?

Should you be travelling to Kenya, Zambia or Tanzania you will need a yellow fever vaccination certificate as these countries are in the yellow fever belt. Have the vaccination a week or two before you leave as these vaccinations can make you feel like you are coming down with the flu.

  • What about visas?

Canadian and American citizens are required to purchase visas to enter Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania. Visas can be purchased through the relevant embassey or high commission prior to travel or on arrival at port of entry of the country you are visiting.

  • Do I need travel insurance?

Cancellation, interruption and emergency medical travel insurance is essential to protect your investment. Travel insurance should be purchased when you confirm your safari with a deposit.

  • What about malaria?

Mosquitoes which carry malaria are prevalent in most areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. They will mainly be encountered in Southern Africa during the hot wet season of November to March. During the drier months of the year (May – October), there are not many mosquitoes around. You should still see your doctor for a prophylactic before traveling to Africa at any time of the year.

  • What is the best time to visit Africa?

Africa is a year-round destination, and the best time depends on your travel preference.

  • What do I wear?

Whether you’re travelling in the wet or dry season, you should come prepared for rain at any time. Bring a waterproof coat (a light one will be okay for the dry season, but you’ll need something sturdier for the wet season) and a small travel umbrella or rain poncho.  Ditch the head-to-toe khaki! You’ll only need comfortable, lightweight clothing in neutral colours. Don’t wear bright colours like white or red (it can disturb the animals), and avoid dark colours like blue or black (it attracts Tsetse flies). Bring warm layers for morning and evening game drives, and cool layers for the hot days. It’s also best to wear light, long layers as it helps protect you from the sun and insects.
